As a preschool parent, you know that technology is always changing and evolving. It can be hard to keep up with all of the different gadgets, apps, and online platforms out there. Here are some tips on how to use technology as a tool when raising your preschooler. Follow these simple guidelines, and you’ll be able to help your child stay safe and learn while using technology during online preschool.

Be a Model for Using Technology as a Tool

The best way to teach your child how to use technology as a tool is to be a good role model yourself. Show them how you use technology in your everyday life and explain why it’s helpful. For example, if you’re using a recipe app to cook dinner, show them how you’re able to find new recipes and get step-by-step instructions.

    Create Tech Boundaries

It’s important to set some basic ground rules for how and when your child can use technology. Decide on a daily screen time limit and stick to it. You should also create some rules about what types of activities are appropriate for online preschool. For example, you might want to limit screen time to 30 minutes per day, and only allow educational apps or websites that are approved by you.

Give Your Child Hands-On Play Experiences Every Day

It’s important to make sure that your child is getting enough hands-on play experiences every day. This means playing with toys, going outside, and interacting with other people – not just staring at a screen all day. Preschoolers learn best when they’re actively engaged in their environment, so make sure to provide plenty of opportunities for them to explore and play.

Make Sure Technology Doesn’t Get in the Way

Technology should be used as a supplement to your child’s learning, not a replacement for it. Make sure that online preschool is just one part of your child’s day, and that they’re still getting plenty of other experiences as well. For example, if you’re using online preschool to teach your child about numbers and counting, make sure they’re also doing lots of hands-on activities.

    Be Comfortable Saying No

There will be times when you need to say no to your child about using technology. This is perfectly normal, and it’s important to set these boundaries early on. Explain to your child why you’re saying no and offer an alternative activity. For example, if they’re asking to play a game on your phone, you might say something like, “No, we can’t play that game right now. But why don’t we read this book together instead?”

Start Online Preschool Off on The Right Foot

By following these simple tips, you’ll be able to help your child learn and stay safe while using online preschool. Technology can be a great tool for learning, but it’s important to use it in moderation. Make sure you’re providing plenty of other opportunities for your child to explore and play during preschool at home, be comfortable saying no when necessary, and of course, enjoy the journey!
